Shadowland Biography UNDER CONSTRUCTION
|
The brain child of Philly Gothfathers Fred Roth & Jimi Black,
Shadowland officially opened on Sat. July 23, 2004. They had
an idea to bring back the old school goth scene, and provide
a laid back, dark, dank, and decadent place to relax, have a
drink, socialize, dance, and mingle. "For Goths by Goths" was
the original motto. Since then, we have stayed true to our
principles. Our patrons, many regulars, find themselves
returning after their first time once they've had the experience
of a non-pretentious goth club where you are free to be
yourself...or someone else. You can feel comfortable amidst
the friendly staff and patrons, enforced drug free policy, and
relaxed atmosphere.
Many have commented on the continued commitment to the
dark decor. Jimi Black designed our staple 8' ceiling ankh
and 4' stage pentacle (both aglow in red backlights), and our
3 cocktails tables (adorned with KISS, Cruxshadows, and the
Shadowland pentacle logos). He also designed and created
the red and black dragon upholstery on the benches, as well
as the Victorian red & gold curtains with matching bench
cushions. Our lighting is kept in theme in reds, purples, and
blues, combined with pillar candles on every possible surface.
Most of the flyers (see the flyer gallery) were designed by
Jimi too.
Over the years we have had many theme and special event
nights. Among those were gothic bellydance shows, an art
show, Christmas/Winter Holiday & Halloween/Samhain parties,
birthday parties for patrons and staff, guest DJs, bands, metal
nights; CD, magazine & book releases; Hurricane Katrina fund
raiser and more. We periodically have special discounted
cover prices if you attend other local gothic/fetish events
before heading over to our night.
What can you expect when you come to Shadowland? If you
haven't already gotten the picture, you can expect a relaxed,
laid back atmosphere that remains true to its goth roots. Our
DJs are among the best in the city and have their own cult
followings, our female staff are things of dark beauty to
behold, and our patrons are welcoming and well dressed. Our
upstairs vendors change from time to time; see the vendors
page for our past merchants. Oh yea, when you go to the
lounge to get a cocktail, THIGHS BEWARE! We girls have a
bad habit of frequently bringing in all sorts of iced, sugary, or
chocolaty homemade baked goods! C'mon...what's scary
without a little sweet? :D
